PFAS in Agriculture 50 min.
There are many areas that intersect agriculture and the
bioaccumulation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
Wastewater solids (biosolids), or sewage sludge and residential
septage are important fertilizer after proper treatment for crops
as is compost. However, food waste streams are contaminated
with PFAS. This contamination bioaccumulates in compost made
from mixed feedstocks such as manure, green waste, and food
waste. These products become part of the biosolids-based
products and the cycle continues. What are other PFAS based
contaminants? What is the depth of this problem and are their
solutions?
